THE COLLABORATION

My interest in the sex industry was sparked when I first visited the Prostitution Information Centre (PIC) back in 2019. After a conversation with the team members, I came home feeling inspired, frustrated, curious and confronted all at the same time. I felt inspired by the PIC’s team members' openness to share their personal experiences and knowledge of the industry. I was frustrated to hear the lack of structural and social support sex workers have been receiving. I was curious to learn what I could do to further support the destigmatization of  sex work. Lastly, I was confronted with the fact that, although I considered myself to be open-minded about sex work, I still had so much more to learn.

These impressions stuck with me and in July this year I visited the PIC with a project proposal to use my art as a platform to further educate myself and others about sex work. I find it difficult to find the right words to express the way I felt when they agreed to take on the project, it truly felt like a dream come true. Giving purpose to my art is something I’ve always looked for and this collaboration allowed me to use my art for a cause that I am so passionate about - destigmatization around sex work and sex workers rights.

Over the past months, I feel honored to have worked very closely with Zina, Violet and Lilly from PIC. Through various conversations, I have gotten to know more about their studies, hobbies, interests, frustrations, sexuality, disappointment, favorite sex toys, comfort food, love for cats, favorite K-drama series and so much more.  I cannot thank them enough for trusting me with sharing their story through my art. Without them there would have been no story to tell.

I hope this exposition has created a platform for you to start a conversation about sex work. We have grown up being influenced by so many misconceptions about the industry and the work. But sex work is work, and let’s start talking about it! I invite you to think about what you already know about sex work, what you are curious to learn about, to ask any questions you may have, and of course to enjoy the exposition.

DONATION & VISIT THE PROSTITUTION INFORMATION CENTER (PIC)

With your support, we were able to donate a grand total of €1255,55 to the Prostitution Information Center (PIC) to further support their mission in educating others with accurate information about sex work and fight the misconceptions and myths about sex work.

If you are curious to learn more about sex work and how you can be an ally, I'd highly encourage you to visit the PIC center (Enge Kerksteeg 3) for a cup of coffee with the lovely team members or join their walk-and-talks of the Red Light district.
